A Day in the Life of Emily Dann Office and Culture Co-Ordinator at HelloFresh

What do you do, and how did you get here?
I started working for HelloFresh in Nov 2015 as a Customer Care Executive. I had a fabulous team and loved the various scenarios I had to deal with and solve on a daily basis for our customers! Having said that, I wanted to work smack-bang in the heart of HelloFresh so when the role of Office and Culture Co-ordinator (aka Fresh Farm Host) became available at our new office in Shoreditch, I jumped at it!

11 months later, I am still loving the role and the opportunity to bring the HelloFresh culture to life. Aspects of my role include planning all the internal social events including the Summer bash which is coming up very soon and managing all the food, stationery and IT equipment in the building to ensure our Freshers can work as efficiently as possible! I also run our coffee shop which sits in the foyer of the building, meaning I make a mean coffee for all our guests.

How do you spend your day?
Once the cereal has been topped up, the coffee brewed and the fruit laid out, then it’s time for me to get started on my to-do list. At the moment, my biggest project is the Summer Party 2017 and one of the biggest challenges is keeping it a secret! I have a huge social and cultural calendar for the team here at the HelloFresh Farm so there is always something to plan and organise on a monthly basis. On top of this, the front desk can get very busy so whipping up some delicious coffees, giving visitors tours of the office and giving all our new Freshers the best possible first day is all part and parcel of my day-to-day.

What’s the best part of your job?
I get to speak to every single person that enters the Fresh Farm every day. That means I have an exclusive relationship with every member of the HelloFresh family from all over the world! It is really heartwarming to know that I can bring a smile to someone’s face in the morning and be the go-to member of the team for some positive vibes – and all the juicy details of our Summer Party…! Being the face of HelloFresh means bringing all the smiles, laughter and sunshine to the office and I’m genuinely loving every second of it!

What’s the hardest part of your job?
The hardest part of my role is trying to please everyone and make sure we have a culture that includes everyone in the business from Heads of Departments to our Line Leaders in The Granary (our warehouse in Banbury). It can be a challenge to encourage all Freshers to engage in our social activities, especially those that don’t live in London. You can’t enforce fun so I am constantly looking for new ways to make these things more accessible for the wider team!

What traits are ‘must haves’ to do your job well?

I think someone in my role needs to be super positive and full of smiles. It can be tough when things don’t go your way or you feel you have a mountain of work to climb but, as the first port of call for people walking into the office, you need to put on a brave face. You only get one shot to make a first impression! As the go-to person in the office you have to be ready to answer all the important questions like the location of the tape measure and bottle openers ????

Any advice for people applying for a job like yours?
Just be the best version of yourself. The best part of working for HelloFresh is that I am 100% myself all day long and this makes coming into work that little bit more rewarding.

Being honest, open and friendly is definitely key in getting employees engaged in both our mission and culture and the result of this is really rewarding.

What’s your ultimate goal in your career?
I would love to be in a position where I am running an office with more influence in HR. My ultimate goal would be to manage a team whose purpose was to bring the company brand and culture to life; making the working environment a haven for all employees. I have a strong interest in employee engagement and happiness and as such I would love to be in the position where I have the knowledge and experience to run and host external events and talks on this topic to help others!

How do you unwind after work?
A total cliché but I love going to the gym! Gymbox do some amazing classes and I have started to love their equivalent of spinning: Bikes and Beats. It is so challenging but with the crazy loud music and neon lights, I can totally immerse myself in the class and work away the stress of the day! Plus, you get to eat all the food once you are done. Aside from that, I love to just chill in the evenings with my flatmate with the newest TV series and a tasty meal from HelloFresh.

Tell us one quirky thing nobody would know about you.
I like country music haha – Gavin DeGraw is bae.
