What’s The One Question Candidates Should Always Ask In An Interview?

By September 14, 2017For Talent

We spend so much time preparing the standard questions before an interview. How would you describe yourself? What’s your biggest achievement to date? And even the dreaded where do you see yourself in five years?

But sometimes we forget that an interview should be a conversation, not an interrogation. Afterall, it’s a two-way street.

On September 28th we will be hosting Jobbio HIGHER, our massive careers event in the heart of London. So, we decided to ask four fabulous participants the one question that they think candidates should ask during the interview process.

P.S. You should remember these points if you’re coming along to the event (thankfully there are still a few tickets up for grabs).

Pippa Jones, Feed Communications.

It’s all about confidence. Recruitment manager Pippa Jones believes that a little bit of courage can go a long way. She recommends asking the interviewer what makes the company special.

”Be bold! Ask about the company’s mission and vision. What are their values? It’s also great to ask hiring managers what they love about working at their organisation.”

Not only will this show how interested you are, it will also help you to suss out the company culture.

Louis Jauvin, Checkout.com.

Louis is a talent acquisition manager with years of experience under his belt. His advice? Ask the hiring manager about what the company hopes to achieve in the immediate future and in the long term.

”What does success look like for the Company?”

This is a great way to show them that you’re thinking about the bigger picture and willing to work towards a common goal.

effective managers

Liz Alexander, Seedrs.

For Liz, HR and operations manager at Seedrs, it’s all about the research. You should always come into the interview prepared and with a working knowledge of the company and their products.

”You should understand our product and prepare appropriate questions about it.”

This is an easy way to show the hiring manager that you are passionate about what they do. If you can find areas where you think that they can improve, even better.

Deborah Baldé and Ana Harris-Padley, Houzz.

Always go into your interview with a goal in mind. Deborah and Ana admire candidates who show ambition and a desire to get ahead.

”What are the characteristics of your top performers and how can I become one of them?”

Straight away you’re showing the interviewer that you’re willing to work hard to get to the top. Who wouldn’t want to employ someone like that?
