Do These 3 Things Today to Have a More Successful Career

By October 18, 2017For Talent

There is no secret formula to success. It usually takes passion, drive, and a lot of hard work. But when you look at the most successful people in the world there are a few patterns that they usually follow.

Here are just a few things that you can do today to have a more successful career in the long run.

Use your network

Successful people don’t go it alone. On the contrary, they are always looking for opportunities to network and expand their circle of friends, acquaintances, and colleagues. If you want to be successful then you need to put time and effort into your relationships.

Look at every conversation as an opportunity. A chance encounter on a train could lead to a business deal or the person you sit beside at a wedding could lead to a job offer. In your career, you won’t get to the top on your own. You need to invest in others.

Take time for yourself

You need to have some downtime every single day if you want to be successful. It can’t be all work and no play. Make time in your busy schedule for downtime. Whether that’s shopping, sport or even just some time watching tv, it doesn’t really matter.

A lot of successful people find that spending just 30 minutes a day meditating can be hugely beneficial. The queen of daytime TV Oprah Winfrey believes that meditation promotes ”Better sleep. Improved relationships with spouses, children, co-workers. Some people who once suffered migraines don’t anymore. Greater productivity and creativity all around.”

Successful people keep a balance with making money, spending time with their family and loved ones, and achieving personal goals.

Be Critical

You should always be focused on moving forward in your career but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take time to reflect on your past achievements and downfalls. Take time at the end of every workday to think about the work you have completed. What have you done well? What can you improve on?

If you make this a regular part of your day you will soon begin to see areas that you need to work on. It’s important that you’re reflective but not overly critical. You’ll have good days and bad days so don’t beat yourself up over a slow week.
