What career advice would you give your younger self?

It’s that time of year again, snow is falling, expenditure is rising and dodgy dancing is taking the office party by storm.

But before we get too distracted with mistletoe and merriment it’s good to remember that Christmas is also a time for reflection, to look back on the year gone by and make plans for the future.

A lot of these plans will revolve around improving ourselves; getting fitter, travelling more or finally learning to drive. Some may even focus on specific career goals like looking for a promotion or leaving your job altogether.

The next few weeks will see us inundated with expert advice on becoming better, more successful versions of ourselves. But often the best advice doesn’t come from others, it comes from drawing on our own experience.

With that in mind we asked a number of people to share their retrospective career wisdom by answering one question:
