3 Ways to Worry Less and Achieve More in 2019

By December 6, 2018For Talent

The calmest person in the room is always the most powerful.

Do you overthink? It’s actually one of the top reasons people give for feeling stuck in their day-to-day lives. It’s also the frustrating, debilitating mindset that stops us achieving goals.

Come to think of it, when was the last time you actually felt fully in control of any situation (weekly targets meeting, presentation to your peers or a job interview)? Did you feel confident that you could handle whatever was thrown at you?

The ability to stay calm under pressure is a huge asset in the workplace. It’s one of the life skills that we admire in others so it makes sense to work on it ourselves.

With a calm, self-assured manner you will:

  • Get noticed for all the right reasons
  • Create an aura of authority and knowledge
  • Engender trust and admiration
  • Maintain focus in any given situation
  • Be more receptive to learning (and growing)

So, how can you master this focused mindset and avoid getting bogged down in the small stuff that steals so much of your productivity?

Here are three statements that will bring clarity if you find yourself constantly worrying about things. Try to align yourself with them to create a helpful perspective when you feel a meltdown approaching.

I don’t need to be perfect

Whatever it is that you’re gearing up for, know that giving it your best shot is what really matters. Take the pressure off yourself. When you show up in an authentic way as yourself (flaws and all) that’s when the good stuff happens.

If you’re moving ahead in the very best way that you can your friends, colleagues and bosses will start to notice. Get out there and be you!

I don’t need to compare myself to others

This is one of the surest ways to stunt progress and create unnecessary anxiety.

Everyone moves through life at a different pace. Your input and output are yours and yours alone. That means that no one brings what you do to the table. Celebrate that incredible fact!

I’m making great progress at my own speed

Start cheerleading your own little success stories along the way. Nobody but you really knows the effort you’re putting into life. So remind yourself of the challenges that you’ve overcome recently. Be proud of any accomplishment in life, no matter how small it may seem.

When you start to recognise your own progress, small worries naturally start to fade away. Look for the positives and you’ll always find them.

No matter what you’ve got on your plate, focus on a small handful of priorities every day and make them your driving force. It’s way too easy to let the world around you distract you from what’s really important. That’s when worry and stress and stagnation creep in.
