What would you like to achieve this year? Perhaps you’d like to get a new job? Or maybe a promotion?
Here are just a few new year’s career resolutions that you can actually keep (unlike that brand new gym membership).
Learn at least one new skill
In today’s competitive work environment you really can’t afford to fall behind. Make it your mission to learn at least one new skill related to your field in 2021. That might mean signing up for a night class or even enrolling online. Do whatever it takes.
Focus on workplace wellness
Most people spend the majority of their lives working. Think of ways that you can look after your physical and mental health while you’re there. It can be anything from a lunchtime yoga class to taking the stairs each morning. Every little helps.
Boost your employability and help others? Why wouldn’t you want to volunteer? Reach out to local organisations in your area. It’s guaranteed to help you to beat the January blues.
Update your Jobbio profile
And your LinkedIn page too. How are people going to know about your great achievements if you don’t have them written down? Make sure that both your pages are full of relevant information.
Find a mentor
Or if you already have one focus on nurturing that relationship. Mentors can be invaluable sources of advice. Don’t take them for granted.
Read at least one career-related book
It can be anything from Sheryl Sandberg to Stephen Covey. Just read something that will inspire you to make changes this year. Need a few suggestions? You can find some of our favourites here.
Have a career evaluation
That means sitting down and thinking about what you would like to achieve in the next five years. What is the dream scenario? What steps do you need to take to get yourself to that point? Sometimes we are so busy working from day-to-day that we forget to take a step back and look at the larger picture.
Make more time for things you love
Well, it can’t be all work and no play now can it? Make 2021 the year that you explore more of your passions outside of work. You never know, they might even lead you towards a new career entirely.
