Do your research

Every growth hacking role is different, depending on the company, so research will be key. When applying for a role, it is important to know as much as possible about the business, this is the kind of awareness that will make your application stand out. Be aware of the EVP and their Employer Brand.

Be specific

You probably want to include every little bit of experience you have, and I don’t blame you. However, it’s important to grab the employer’s attention, which means putting most emphasis on skills and experience that are specifically relevant to the job. Read through the job advertisement carefully, and pull from that!

Why that company?

Don’t ever just apply for a job ‘for the sake of it’ – it will come through in your application. Make sure the company you are applying to is somewhere you genuinely want to work. Think about what they are doing as a business… does it excite you? If yes, make that clear in your application. Express your enthusiasm as best you can.

Sell yourself (yes, really)

At the end of the day, you are going up against a number of other qualified growth hackers, in an area of marketing that is notoriously competitive. so don’t be afraid to sell yourself. It’s sometimes human nature to avoid ‘show boating’, but honestly, when it comes to landing a job, show boat the hell out of yourself. Include all of your amazing achievements, skills and qualifications!

Take your time

Try to avoid rushing your application! Take the necessary time you need to get it perfect (or as close to perfect as possible). Rushed applications that are not personalised will be immediately obvious to potential employers and can give the impression that you don’t care about getting the role (which is not true!)

Include a cover letter

In most online job applications, adding a cover letter is something that’s tagged as optional. However, it really isn’t an element you should overlook. ALWAYS add a cover letter if there is an option to do so – they’re a great way to show off your personality, enthusiasm and passion for the role. You  are so much more than a CV, so show off!
