Finding the right job for you can be a tricky process. So tricky in fact that we might not even realise we are in the wrong job until we’ve left it. At Jobbio we think there is a perfect fit for everyone and that life’s too short to be stuck in an unrewarding job. If you’re unhappy in your job or unsure if you’re in the right role for you, these are the signs it’s time to quit.
You dread work
We’re not suggesting that you should be jumping for joy upon hearing your alarm, we’ve all hit snooze one too many times of a Monday. However, if you have a constant feeling of dread at the prospect of work, it’s time to reconsider your position. Ask yourself what is it that’s distressing you? An overpacked workload? A toxic work environment? It might be something that can be resolved through communicating your issues to your boss. Or it might be time to move on.
You hate your co-workers
Disagreements are part and parcel of the working day for most of us and can actually be a really productive way to flag problems or resolve issues. On the other hand if you are feeling isolated at work or unable to communicate on a professional level with your team it might be time to re-evaluate. Where minor disputes and clashes are a healthy part of a work environment, you shouldn’t feel excluded from the team.
You are bored
Your work day is monotonous. You can’t remember the last time you were excited or challenged in your role. Although it’s hard to find every task a suspense-filled voyage of discovery you should be able to pick out things you enjoy about your working day. Lunch doesn’t count! Reflect on how you spend your time at work, what elements of your job you like, what you’re good at and what you would like to spend less time on. This will help you evaluate if you’re in a worthwhile position.
You have no desire to move up
Opportunities arise at work to upskill or take on extra responsibilities and you have no interest. You’re not committed to the company’s goals and find yourself coasting. While the management route isn’t for everyone, you should always be looking for ways to grow and develop in your role. Apathy is a sure sign you need to make a career change.
You aren’t reaching your potential
You are not being given the chance to fully realise your potential at work. Your skills aren’t being utilised to their full extent and you feel undervalued. It’s a frustration and a sign that you should be looking for a company that will nurture your talent.
Your health is suffering
You notice physical changes to your weight, health, appearance. You’re always worried and low on energy. Don’t make the mistake of thinking this is a reality of working life. It’s not and you deserve better.
Whether you’re coasting in a role where you don’t see a future, or unhappy in a position but afraid of the alternatives, leaving your job is one of the hardest decisions you can make. At Jobbio we make it easier to find the right role for you.
