By April 8, 2019For Talent

Ahead of HIGHER at Dublin Tech Summit, we spoke to some of the companies taking part about the challenges of working in the industry and how to overcome them.

Shannon Milligan, Flash Pack Talent Partner

Flash Pack is a travel company that connects solo travellers in their 30s and 40s. Their business and team are expanding rapidly and that brings challenges, says Shannon.

“It’s seen as a glamorous industry so we don’t struggle attracting candidates, but it means that it’s harder to pinpoint the right talent.”

Tony Hornbuckle, Tableau, Senior EMEA Technical Recruiter

Helping people to better understand and leverage their data is at the core of what Tableau does. Finding people who are proficient in analysing and using that data can be difficult for the industry as a whole, according to Tony Hornbuckle, Senior Technical Recruiter at Tableau:

“The demand for talent in most areas is outweighing the skilled talent in the market. I believe that we need to start focussing in some areas of looking at the graduate market more to invest, develop and train through the ranks.”

Rachel Maher O’Brien, McAfee, Talent Acquisition Manager EMEA

McAfee is one of the world’s top independent cybersecurity companies. As a company, McAfee strives to keep abreast of the latest innovations in the industry. Talent Acquisition Manager, Rachel Maher O’Brien, says:

“The global security landscape changes every day. And we’re determined to stay way out in front. That takes brilliant minds. Strategic thinkers. Tenacious doers. People with a wide range of skills who are ready to roll up their sleeves and solve problems. At McAfee, we’re teams of innovative technologists, sales leaders, financial powerhouses, and more – all working together to make a difference.”

Roisin Cleary, Pramerica Team Lead, SaaS Operations Team

Founded in 2000, Pramerica has seen steady and powerful growth in the past number of years. A large part of its success is attributed to a talented and innovative team who are passionate about continuous learning. When speaking about working in tech, SaaS Operations Team Lead, Roisin Cleary, said:

“In my opinion, complexity is the biggest challenge in the tech industry. I think we need to keep up-to-date with the best use of technologies like Cloud and mobile computing, but search for additional ways to increase productivity.”
