Here are 6 things you need to create the perfect working from home setup

Do you have a decent working from home setup?

So, as a result of the global outbreak of the coronavirus, we’re pretty much all working from home right now. For most of us, this is new terrain, and it has been fairly hard to get used to it. However, having a decent working from home setup can make all the difference to your productivity levels and your overall mental health.

Here are a few things that will make working from home that little bit easier…

A Desk

If you’re reading this from your couch, or worse, your bed, you need to seriously reevaluate your working from home setup I’m afraid. We’re in this for the long haul, and you need to have a proper sitting scenario that’s as close to your actual office as possible. Plus, your back, neck and body in general will suffer if you’re not working from a desk.

Strong Internet

So with more time being spent at home by everyone, the internet in your house is probably working over time. Be careful here. If you’re using video chat, and a number of devices, this may slow down your connection significantly. Be mindful, and if you need strong Internet, consider popping your phone on airplane mode, or even get a booster for your wifi.

Good Lighting

Working from home for extended periods of time can take a toll on your mental health, particularly while we’re also maintaining social distance from the people we love. You have to do what you can to ensure you look after yourself, and letting some natural light into your work space is a simple, and effective, way to do that. Also, crack a window, and let some fresh air in!

Noise Cancelling Headphones

The likelihood is you probably don’t live alone at the moment. You might be with your kids, your parents or your housemates, but regardless, there are bound to be distractions. Particularly now, when we’re all at home most of the time. If you invest in a pair of noise cancelling headphones, you’ll be able to concentrate better when you’re working, or in virtual meetings.

Blue Light Glasses

These are something you kind of need whether you’re working from home or not, but if you don’t have a pair, now is the time to get some. Anyone who spends a large amount of time using screens for work will benefit from a pair. With so many people using multiple devices these days it’s inevitable that prolonged screen can become an issue to eye health. The ones I use every day are Ambr Eyewear (a gorge Irish company, btw).

ROUTINE

Okay so this is something you can’t really buy, but it might be the most important element of your working from home setup. Make sure you’re in a good routine, taking breaks and getting outside as much as possible. Mind yourself.
