Why Careers Events are More Valuable Than Ever

By April 25, 2017For Companies

In a world where we conduct so many of our interactions through a screen, it’s easy to forget the value of moving online connections offline. Here’s why careers events should still be part of your hiring strategy.

Higher volume of candidates

In a single event, you have access to hundreds of potential employees who are actively seeking out new opportunities. For companies with limited resources, this can be an incredibly efficient and cost-effective way to source new, relevant talent.

You get a better sense of a person

Online hiring platforms are wonderful (One in particular!) but there’s nothing like a face-to-face encounter to give you a real sense of a person’s values, personality and suitability to a role. It allows you to connect with someone beyond their employment experience. Thomas Breach of Elsevier said Jobbio’s flagship career event was a wonderful opportunity to tell his company’s story in person and get people engaged.

More driven candidates

The people you meet at careers events are not only more relevant, they’re also more ambitious. They haven’t just submitted an application online, they’ve taken time out of their day to physically check out what your company has to offer. Transferwise Recruitment Lead, Catherine Alani, says the candidates at a careers fair are more diverse, engaged and show a genuine interest in working for the company.

 Network with similar companies

A careers fair is a great place to meet with your peers and discuss what’s going on in your industry. Not only do you get the chance to size up your competitors, you also get to feel out potential partnerships or collaborations.

Improve brand recognition

If you’re a startup or a small company, it can be hard to attract talent to your roles over those at bigger or more established companies. A careers event is a great opportunity to educate prospective employees and competitors about who you are and what you do. It’s a chance to promote yourself as an employer of choice and compete with the more recognisable employer brands. You can also benefit from the event’s marketing campaign, as your company name and logo will feature on all event communications, from social media to event programmes! Speaking at EXPAND London, Laura Connolly of BetBright said the careers event gave her startup the opportunity to get their brand real exposure in the UK market.
