Easy Ways You Can Pretend to be Busy on a Friday Afternoon

By September 22, 2017For Talent

Listen, let’s not beat around the bush. It’s Friday and it’s been a long week. While our bodies are still firmly planted at our desks, our minds are already halfway out the door (and at the pub).

Sometimes staying focused on a Friday afternoon can seem like a mammoth task. If you’re reading this post instead of doing your actual work then you need our top tips for appearing busy.

*Disclaimer* We do not condone any of the below conduct, nor do any Jobbions ever display such behaviour (nudge nudge).

Step 1: Walk really really fast

This is not the time for dilly-dallying. Walk everywhere at an above average pace to make people think that you’re super busy. Watch as your colleagues jump to get out of your way and marvel at what a hard worker you are.

Step 2: Randomly open and close tabs

Have you finished all your work for the week? Don’t worry. All you have to do is rapidly open and close different tabs while also moving around various folders on your desktop. Trust us, it works like a charm.

Bonus points if you bang on your keyboard keys really loudly to let everyone know that you are in fact typing (even if you’re just messaging your mum to see what’s for dinner).

Step 3: Stare into space pretending to brainstorm

People will automatically assume that you’re busy planning the company’s next big launch or thinking about yesterday’s company update. No one will ever suspect that in reality, you’re simply wondering if your dog is thinking about you right at this very second.

Step 4: Book a meeting room for a very important ”phone call”

And by phone call, we mean some very important online shopping. A sure-fire way to look like you’re doing lots of work is to spend the afternoon on the phone. Only really dedicated employees take work calls on a Friday afternoon.

Step 5: Say you’re busy

Say it often and say it loudly. Announce it to the staffroom when you go to make a coffee. Tell the receptionist whenever you come out of a meeting. Heck, even tell the builder outside that you’re up to your eyeballs. This is a sure fire way to convince everyone of your importance.
