The Amply Edit: Crypto careers, a hot Fintech job destination and wage gaps

It’s our mission to connect open job roles and employer brands to global audiences, allowing professionals to find their dream jobs, and companies to find top talent. Our Amply network is expanding rapidly and we look forward to sharing with you some of our newest publishing partners very soon.

In the meantime, here’s a little look at some of the content our team produced for our network this week. While there is a lot of online noise about the demise of cryptocurrencies at the moment, we discover there is still a lot of energy––and employment––in the area. We also take a look at the gender pay gap and discover that younger demographics just might not be willing to take it any more. And when it comes to making a career move, we’ve got a guide to why the Netherlands is top for Fintech talent. Check all of those out below.

Why cryptocurrency might be your next big career move

Those familiar with the volatile cryptocurrency markets are relatively sanguine, writes Amply contributor Jillian Godsil on our partner AltFi – unless they were caught with large holdings in the now defunct UST. The other fully-backed stablecoins are holding their own, and there is reasonable confidence in the market.

A quick scan of Web3 companies online shows the majority are hiring across all areas, too. Not only are they hiring, but the salaries are also soaring. It is not uncommon for Web2 giants to offer US $300,000 to rank and file developers, but recent job advertisements for new Web3 companies have been reported to double that amount.

Shining a light on equal pay and the wage gap

We’re almost halfway through 2022, and the gender pay gap for women is still a thing, writes Amply’s Senior Content Manager Kirstie McDermott on our partner VentureBeat. It still persists for many factors, but the monetary reality, according to Payscale’s 2022 State of the Gender Pay Gap Report is that the uncontrolled gender pay gap (which measures median salary for all men and women), is $0.82 for every $1 that men make. The gap hasn’t narrowed at all and remains the same as last year.

Additionally, a piece of 2021 research from jobs site Indeed discovered that 48% of teenage girls aged between 16 and 18 would rule out working for an organization that has a gender pay gap which disproportionately affects women.

Here’s why the Netherlands is top for Fintech careers

With a population of just under 17.5 million people, the Netherlands is punching above its weight when it comes to Fintech – it is the eighth largest hub in the world, according to a new Global Fintech Talent Report for 2022, writes Kirstie McDermott on our partner Silicon Canals.

The Netherlands has accounted for in excess of $1bn in venture capital transactions for local Fintech firms, and there are 114 active Fintechs here and the country has seen a year-on-year increase in the number of jobs in the Fintech sector of 117% and one in five of those jobs is for software engineers.
